Love to Shop and Dream of Saving the World?

If you’re like me and love to shop, and then sometimes feel a teensy bit guilty afterwards, there are a lot of companies out there that are now partnering with charitable and notable causes to donate portions of their proceeds to those causes. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness, so you’ve probably heard a lot of the “Think Pink” products, its everywhere! I think it’s fabulous that there are so many companies partnering with Breast Cancer Research. Before I buy something with a pink ribbon, I look at how much money actually goes to the cause, what breast cancer organization the money goes to, and what types of programs it supports.
Clinique moisterizer - $10.00 from your purchase helps support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s quest to find a cure.
Splendid Camo tank from Intermixonline - 25% of the proceeds of each sale will be donated to BCRF

Pink Carousel Cakes - zero trans fat! $3.00 from the sale of these cakes will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation dedicated to preventing breast cancer and finding a cure in our lifetime by funding clinical and genetic research worldwide.
KitchenAid Pink mixer - $50 from each mixer purchased will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.www.cooking.com

Cashmere intimates from whiteandwarren.com which supports Women At Risk (WAR), a charitable organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of women at high risk for and with breast cancer through research, education and support.

ThinkPink from RedEnvelope.com. Pink cocktail ring, pink leather jewelry box, and live, love, laugh charm necklace. 10% of proceeds go to The Entertainment industry foundation’s Women’s cancer research fund.

If you just want to give time or money to any cause you are passionate about - a great place is President Clinton’s global initiative mycommitment.org. You can make a commitment to a cause either by donating money or time and also connect with other people who share the same passion.
Another great organizion to give is the Unitedway.org where you can make a difference in your own community.
And I absolutely love Kiva.org – it’s an organization where you can lend to a specific entrepreneur in the developing world- empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty.
What is your favorite local or non-local charity? Share your favorite places to shop for a good cause! : )

The Wayward Offspring of Barney's New York

I want to go here – if you live in LA, I am so jealous. Barney’s New York CO-OP opened this year in March in LA. It has 15 different stores carrying brands such as Citizens of Humanity, Helmut Lang, Kate Moss forTopshop, True Religion, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Theory, Juicy Couture, Joe’s Jeans, 7 For All Mankind, 3.1 PhillipLim, Chip & Pepper, and I can go on and on and on…
You can shop online, they have a list of all the designers they carry and also list out their current obsessions. How I would love to be there in person! It looks like so much fun. I love this concept!
So, what is a CO-OP you ask?

Some cute things I saw & love:
Heart charm necklace - Bing Bang

Fitted leather jacket - Kate Moss for Topshop

Open cardigan - Alexander Wang

Simply Vera

I was on the search for black ankle boots this weekend and I also wanted to check out the Simply Vera line at Kohls. I've heard mixed reviews, so I wanted to see it for myself. Vera Wang was the first thing you see when you walk in on the Misses entrance. The signing is blue with Simply Vera everywhere. The display was pretty nice, there was an outfit with accessories on display. Her color pallets were mostly black, navy blue, and violet. There were two very cute dresses that I immediately grabbed off of the rack. Both were black, one a sleeveless pleated empire waisted dress, and one was a long sleeve empire waisted dress. Both looked great on the rack, but I can't pull off the empire waisted dress without looking like I was either pregnant or gained 10 lbs. They were both nays. There were two black skirts, a pleated skirt and an a-line, but I didn't need a black skirt so I skipped over to the purple bubble skirt. It looked great on the mannequin, but I was never into the bubble skirt trend, so that was a nay as well. There were several tops - some basic tees and babydoll tops all on hangers. And the way they were hanging, they just looked so stretched out and long. They did not look appealing to me at all. There was a really cute long sweater in black and lilac, but the only sizes left were too big for me. I ended up deciding on a really cute trapeze blazer in black and violet.

Wool trapeze blazer. Snap button. On sale for $53.99

Simply Vera tag - matches the in-store signing
Simply Vera also had handbags, shoes, knit hats and gloves, tights, and bedding. I wasn't really impressed with any of the accessories; to me, they felt more Kohls than Vera Wang. Last stop was the shoe section. There was a whole aisle just for Simply Vera. She had a lot of flats, and I love flats - I had to stop and touch them all before heading towards the boots. Her boots were very cute - she had a couple of ankle boots selection, and I did end up purchasing one of them. It was not bad at all for the price - and it was very comfy.

Ankle boots - I especially like the buckle detail.

the pair - i love tall shoes. On sale for $62.99

All in all, Simply Vera is worth checking out.

Zoe Sale!

I love what Zoe has to offer - all the best designer labels. And it is having a sale, up to half off of really cute summer wear. They have a lot of sandals, so if you are where the sun will still be around - this is a great deal! The actual brick-and-mortar store is in Brooklyn, New York and it carries almost everything. But you can also get a great experience shopping on www.shopzoeonline.com. That's where I went and saw the big "End of Summer Sale" and just had to take a quick peek!

Anna Sui pleated dress - at a deep discount! Yikes!

Zac Posen polished cotton trench - a very sexy silhouette

Zac Posen wavy pleated blouse - it looks so perfect

Moschino silk crepe skirt - a classic staple

Anna Corinna tote - wait there's more....it can be folded and turned into a clutch!

Chloe patent flats - I love flats!

Carmen Ho snakeskin pump - perfect for jazzing up a simple outfit.

Fall Fashion

Its Fashion Week in NY where all the top designers debut their Spring 2008 collections. Ahh the frenzy for Spring of next year. But as the weather turns crisp and cool, and the day gets shorter, I am thinking: what am I going to wear for fall? I needed a reminder. I immediately looked on the website Net-A-Porter.com where they listed out the designers and you could shop their Fall 2007 collection. That’s when I remembered how much I love 3.1 Phillip Lim. I love the simple shapes and designs that are yet oh so feminine. Fall is going to be so much fun!
